Chapter Reading: Romans 13 | Verse of the Day: Romans 13:11
You’ve probably done it—dozed off in the sun, only to wake up sunburned and groggy. That’s what happens when you nap in the light: you get scorched.
Paul says, spiritually speaking, the sun is up. The light is shining. Don’t fall asleep.
“Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.” — Romans 13:11
Christian’s journey was marked by urgency—most of the time. But even he dozed off at places like the arbor at Hill Difficulty or the Enchanted Ground.
Paul’s warning in Romans 13 is blunt: Wake up. Time is short. Jesus is near. The world is getting darker, but the light of the gospel is shining brighter. This is no time for spiritual napping.
To “wake up” spiritually means to live like eternity is real and the finish line is close. You don’t doze off in a race—you press on.
So don’t hit snooze on obedience. Don’t nap through your calling.
Application
- Ask yourself: where have I grown spiritually lazy or numb?
- Read Romans 13:8–14 and highlight every verb—it’s full of action.
- Memorize Romans 13:11 and quote it when you’re tempted to spiritually drift.
This theme of urgency echoes throughout Walking with God and Footsteps of the Messiah. Visit ShoeLeatherGospel.com to wake up your faith walk.
Closing Prayer
Lord, shake me out of spiritual slumber. Help me live alert, aware, and alive to You today.
The alarm is going off. Don’t sleep through sunlight.
